Fediverse Curious? The Why, What, and Mostly How of Alternative Social Networks

Fediverse Curious? The Why, What, and Mostly How of Alternative Social Networks In-Person

Have you been wondering if there is an alternative to using traditional social media designed to enrage and sell you stuff you don’t need? Are you disturbed that your Uncle George has started drinking his own urine because he’s convinced of the health benefits? Do you throw up your hands in despair at the firehouse of dis- and misinformation in the world?

You may be Fediverse Curious. Come to this session for the basics of this alternative federated social networking universe. You’ll learn how to get started with Mastodon and tips on curating your feed - rather than accepting the algorithms in traditional social media. Get a glimpse of the possibilities and discover how the Fediverse allows you to connect with like-minded individuals and communities that share your interests, without the toxic dynamics often found on mainstream platforms.
