Assignments and Lectures Posted on Note-Sharing Sites: Tips for Prevention and Response In-Person
Increasingly, students are posting course materials on so called “note-sharing sites,” such as CourseHero or Studocu. While this may be fine for personal notes, it at times presents a problem from an intellectual property perspective (e.g., posted lecture slides) and at others a threat to academic integrity (posted assessments, answer keys, etc.). Moreover, note-sharing sites are notoriously uncooperative when it comes to removing problematic material from their servers. This session will cover a) strategies that promote students’ understanding of how to avoid improper use of these sites, b) MacEwan procedures to address improper postings, and c) how to effectively get illegitimately posted material taken down.
