Citation Practices Challenge for Black History Month [online] In-Person
Celebrate Black History Month and reflect on your citation practices. Who we teach, assign readings from, and cite in our own research and in the classroom has a reproductive effect. Our citation practices end up re-creating the field in particular ways, representing particular voices and perspectives over others. This session invites you to examine the ways that certain scholars get positioned as canon, and leave others ignored and under-read. This Black History Month we can reflect on how we can include more diverse voices in our syllabi, lectures, and writing and value the work of Black scholars.
