Teaching Symposium: Navigating the Evolving Frontiers of Higher Education In-Person
About the Teaching Symposium
The aim of this interdisciplinary symposium is to foster the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and faculty development resources to meet the challenges and opportunities with intercultural encounters, immersive learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the fediverse. Participants in these timely conversations will leave with a deeper understanding of these advances in higher education and their role as leaders in faculty development efforts that foster academic excellence.
Schedule
The symposium will be held on May 23 (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) and May 24 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.). For a detailed schedule, please refer to our website. Registrations close May 14 at 11:59 pm.
Audience
We welcome education professionals from teaching centres or whose roles support faculty, as well as instructors engaged in frontier teaching practices to attend the symposium to engage with the following topics:
- Intercultural Competence: the ability to interact effectively and appropriately with people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Immersive Learning: the use of technology to simulate real-world scenarios and create a multisensory learning experience.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technologies: software and algorithms that can perform human-like tasks, such as language processing and problem-solving.
- Fediverse: a collection of decentralized and community-owned social networks, which offer an alternative to social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
We encourage participants to consider questions such as:
- How can we incorporate global learning and prepare students for highly collaborative working experiences; how can we support intercultural competence?
- How can we use technology to create meaningful simulated learning experiences that address real world challenges?
- How can we use AI technologies to complement our teaching and learning?
- What is the role of participatory technologies like the fediverse for social or open education practices?
