From Science Fiction to Reality: AI and ChatGPT for Faculty In-Person

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the world we live in, from virtual assistants and chatbots to self-driving cars and medical diagnoses. As educators, it's essential to understand the basics of AI and how to leverage it in our teaching to prepare students for the rapidly evolving job market. However, AI can be a daunting topic, and many instructors are unsure where to start. That's why we've developed "From Science Fiction to Reality: AI and ChatGPT for Faculty," a crash course that provides an accessible overview of AI and its potential applications in post-secondary education.

In this workshop, we'll begin with an overview of the development of AI platforms, including the potential for biases to be introduced into these systems. Next, we'll dive into ChatGPT, an advanced AI language model that can generate human-like text and engage in conversational interactions with users. We'll demonstrate how ChatGPT works and highlight how to balance the benefits of AI with the need to maintain academic integrity.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have a solid understanding of the basics of AI and ChatGPT and the potential benefits and challenges of these technologies in post-secondary education.

Ps. Mavis did … sort of … use ChatGPT to write the description above.
