Grieving an Unsuccessful Application (In Person) In-Person

Life in academia is full of applications: We apply for the job, then for tenure and promotion. We apply to receive funding, research grants, and teaching awards. We apply to present at conferences, to publish in journals, and so on. Inevitably, there comes a day when we receive a notification that our application has been unsuccessful. What do we do then? Do we resent the ‘no’ and feel the rejection deep in our soul? Do we fume in anger and blame the decision-makers? Do we plunge into depression and lose hope? Do we repeatedly replay in our mind what we could have done differently? Do we brush the result off and minimize its importance? Do we accept the decision and try again?

This reflective session invites participants into a safe space where we will explore strategies to grieve an unsuccessful application and to grow around grief. This workshop is designed with the premise that we all want to move towards acceptance and healing, but we don’t necessarily know how.

Let’s grieve and grow together.
