Redesigning Assessments to Account for Generative Artificial Intelligence (In-Person Session) In-Person

In this full-morning session, faculty are invited to consider how the availability of AI is impacting their assessments and then engage in hands-on activities to redesign a course assignment of their choice so that it better accounts for AI use, whether that be to support responsible use of AI tools or to redesign the assessment to ensure that key learning outcomes are demonstrated without the use of AI.

The session will begin with an overview of some of the types of AI tools students are likely to be accessing and the types of assignments that are most easily offloaded to AI programs to complete. Participants will then discuss how AI is impacting their own courses while also considering the kinds of AI proficiencies graduates in their disciplines will soon be expected to demonstrate. Then, participants will engage in a series of hands-on activities where, using an assessment that they've selected from one of their courses, they are guided through the process of examining their learning outcomes, identifying areas that are susceptible to impermissible or unethical AI use, and then revising or redesigning the assignment for the appropriate level of AI engagement.

This workshop will be held on campus in room 7-269.
