Team Projects: Practical Strategies for Success [In-Person] In-Person

This session will be co-facilitated by Educational Developers, JoAnne Davies and Raj Boora of CTL, and Dr. Lyle Benson from the School of Business, Department of Management and Organizations.

Thinking of implementing a team project in your course? Team-based learning (TBL) is a powerful pedagogy that fosters problem-solving and active learning. Students can develop teamwork skills important to their future career. However, team projects can present challenges for both faculty and students. In this session we will explore what to consider when planning a team project for your course. We will discuss strategies for managing and supporting student groups during the term. You will also receive a few pointers about mêskanâs features useful for group work, along with examples, templates, and other resources.

Dr. Benson will discuss his teaching experience and research in this area. It is recommended that you read Dr. Benson's essay Teaching Students How to Succeed in Group Assignments in advance of the session. This paper was published in the inaugural (2025) issue of Pedagogical Inquiry and Practice, hosted at MacEwan.
