Slow Down: Reimaging how we teach and learn [online] In-Person

In Jasmine Ulmer's (2017) Writing Slow Ontology, she asks "What if - in response to the rapidly increasing pace of academic production - scholars adopted a Slow Ontology?", one that allows us to "find a slower way of scholarly being" (202).  The Slow Professors, Maggie Berg and Barbara K. Seeber, asked similar questions in their 2016 book, and offer slowness as an antidote to the current pace of crisis that exists in the current moment. They argue, "We believe that adopting the principles of Slow into our professional practice is an effective way to alleviate work stress, preserve humanistic education, and resist the corporate university". Drawing from growing literature on slow movements, degrowth materialism, and disability studies, this session offers the theoretical foundations to rethink your own pace of work.

These principles and theories can help you evaluate how you approach your teaching practice; and offer ideas, strategies, and tools for adjusting your internal clock.
