Literature Across the Curriculum: Engaging Students with the MacEwan Book of the Year (Online) In-Person
Literary works have the power to stimulate creative discussion, develop critical thinking and analysis skills, and provide students with engaging reading materials and topics to explore. The MacEwan Book of the Year is an annual celebration of one work of Canadian literature that is taught in coursework across multiple disciplines. The program also features several campus events, including classroom visits from the author, a public reading and a student contest. This year's book is The Other Valley by Scott Alexander Howard.
In this session, faculty will consider the benefits of using literary works across the curriculum, receive an overview of some of the diverse themes present in The Other Valley, and learn about the different ways they can incorporate the book into their teaching and support the Book of the Year program.
