Leading in Academia: Panel with Dr. Kim Harcombe and Dr. Melissa Hills In-Person
Join this in person session to learn from two colleagues in the Biological Sciences department as they share their professional experiences and perspectives on Educational Leadership.
Dr. Kim Harcombe is currently the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science, leading a department of just over 50 full-time faculty, sessional faculty, and staff colleagues. She has served a two-year term as the Vice-Chair of the General Faculties Council and as the Faculty Co-Chair of GFC's Academic Standards, Curriculum and the Calendar Committee. She is also a microbiologist whose student-engaged research focuses on the discovery of novel antibacterial chemicals produced by invasive weeds in Alberta. Her recent teaching has explored the use of hybrid and flipped-classroom modalities to introduce students to the basics of microbiology, virology, and infectious disease.
Dr. Melissa Hills is a molecular biologist and full professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. She is a current Chancellor's Research Chair and recent recipient of a Distinguished Teaching and Teaching Leadership award. Her Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research involves working with students who are disabled and/or neurodivergent as partners in inclusive curriculum development. She is also the group lead of the Research Group on Inclusive Experiential Learning.
