SoTL Tiny Desk: Pull Up a Chair
Ever wondered how faculty navigate the intersection of teaching and research? SoTL Tiny Desk offers a rare glimpse into the scholarly inquiry shaping teaching and learning at MacEwan University.
Join us for brief, focused presentations where SoTL scholars—Professors Melissa Hills and Calin Anton—share snapshots of their current work. Dr. Hills will reflect on Working with Students with Disabilities as Partners in SoTL, while Dr. Anton will explore Alumni as Mentors for Current Students: An Inquiry into the Effectiveness of This Approach.
In two 15-minute presentations, you’ll gain a window into their research questions, approaches, and early insights. The session then opens into conversation: a dynamic discussion where you can ask questions, consider ethical dimensions, and spark ideas for your own scholarly inquiry.
Whether you’re new to SoTL or refining an ongoing project, SoTL Tiny Desk invites you to pull up a chair, connect with colleagues, exchange ideas, and expand your academic community, all within a lunch hour.

Share Your Work at SoTL Tiny Desk
Are you exploring a question about teaching and learning? Whether you’re in the early stages of inquiry or further along in your research, SoTL Tiny Desk is a space to share ideas, spark discussion, and connect with colleagues.
We invite you to present a short, engaging snapshot of your work—whether it’s a research project in progress, a literature review shaping your study, or an emerging question you’d like to explore with others. This is an opportunity to test ideas, gather feedback, and consider the broader impact of your work across disciplines.
To participate, send us a one-page summary that includes:
- A compelling title
- Your research question and context
- An overview of your methods (or key literature if you're just starting out)
- Potential implications for teaching and learning
Presentations are scheduled during the lunch hour, with 15 minutes for sharing and 15 minutes for discussion. Let us know your interest by the 20th of the preceding month—we’ll take care of the rest!
