Teaching Essentials - Presence, Tone, and the Performative Aspects of Teaching In-Person
NOTE: This session is offered in-person and is a part of the Teaching Essentials Institute.
Presenter: Dawn Sadoway, Associate Professor & Department Chair, Theatre.
This session offers space to explore what it means to feel grounded, steady, and present when stepping into the classroom. Focusing on the performative aspects of teaching, this session will introduce practical tools from theatre and voice work to help instructors manage nerves, use breath and physicality to communicate clarity and confidence, and engage students with authenticity. Consider how your presence, energy, and design choices shape the learning space, and leave with simple, transferable strategies you can use right away.
