Ungrading and the Possibilities for Rethinking Assessment In-Person

Are there learning objectives that seem unsuited to a letter or number grade? And can we realistically meet our teaching goals without without relying on traditional grades? Ungrading does not mean the absence of assessment. Rather, it asks us to rethink what assessment is for and what it does.

Ungrading is an approach to assessment that emerges from an appreciation for faculty and student collaboration in higher education.

In this session we explore the concept of ungrading and how it might meaningfully support your assessment plans. We will look at ways to get started with ungrading and reflect on how your existing assessment practices may already hold the foundations of ungrading.
