Intercultural Competence in Higher Education [In person] In-Person

How is cultural competence evolving in higher education, and what does this mean for your teaching, student learning, and professional practice?

This session continues the conversations started in Perspectives on Intercultural Competence and invites participants to deepen their awareness of the current tensions and advancements in cultural competence in higher education, across domestic and international contexts. As institutions navigate globalization, internationalization, equity, and increasingly diverse student populations, cultural competence shifts across disciplinary, domestic, and international contexts. This workshop explores cultural competence as a developmental process, emphasizing that it is not a fixed achievement but an ongoing journey of growth in attitudes, skills, and knowledge for everyone in higher education. Together we will

  • Examine current tensions and challenges influencing cultural competence in higher education
  • Explore the advancements and emerging approaches supporting culturally responsive and inclusive educational environment.

This conversation is ongoing. As our post-secondary contexts shift, so too will our understanding and strategies.
