Teaching Essentials: Finding Your Rhythm in the Classroom In-Person

The early weeks of teaching often feel like a sprint. This session helps you settle into a sustainable rhythm for the rest of the term. We'll look at simple ways to plan class sessions efficiently, keep students engaged when energy dips, and manage your prep time so teaching fits alongside the rest of your life. We'll also explore how to read the room, check in on student learning before mid-term, and respond when things aren't going as planned. You'll connect with other new instructors and hear what's working in their classrooms.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Plan a class session using a straightforward, repeatable structure
  • Use quick active learning strategies to boost engagement
  • Gather informal feedback from students to guide your next steps
  • Identify strategies to manage prep and workload across the term
