Writing to Know: How to use writing activities to support student learning [online] In-Person

This workshop will take you through Sondra Perl's Felt Sense: Guidelines for Composing, a guided writing exercise that can be a dynamic tool to support student learning (2004). Writing is often understood to be a means to evaluation, but writing practices can be useful in and of themselves in the process of learning.  Perl's Guidelines help students understand what they already know, and offer strategies for developing critical thinking, creativity, and reflective learning. This writing exercise can be used to deepen student engagement, and support student understanding in many different disciplines.

In this session come ready to write, and we will run through the whole exercise and discuss ways we might be able to adapt this to our own classrooms.
