You’ve started to cross off your to do list for the start of the academic year. Well done! Now let’s consider the hidden strategies for quality teaching and learning experiences for both you and your students. Does “kindness” factor in planning for higher education teaching and learning? In this session we will look at the idea of kindness as a facet of critical pedagogy, trauma-informed teaching practices, and compassionate pedagogies. We will discuss some misconceptions about the idea of kindness in the academy and suggest some practical ways that weaving some research-backed practices can strengthen your plans for the academic year. Start your year strong with some simple actions that can support your goals for effective teaching.
